If you would like to join us in our mission to tackle the rising levels of homelessness in Newham.

Volunteer

We simply could not run our shelter without the support of our amazing volunteer teams. Together they set up the venue, make all the beds, cook and serve hearty meals, and offer our guests friendly conversation. Two volunteers stay over each night and others turn up first thing to serve breakfast and pack down. Some of our volunteers come along for a one off shift and others commit to serving regularly throughout the winter.

Each venue has a Host Coordinator on site responsible for overseeing the shift. We offer all our volunteers training with an induction pack and have in place a range of policies to ensure the safety and well-being of both guests and volunteers.

Please note that, due to safeguarding regulations, we are only able to have volunteers over the age of 18 present during the shelter but younger helpers are welcome to help us with tasks during the day for example laundering the bedding, cooking, making beds, collecting donations, etc.

If you would like to volunteer (either by cooking, chatting, serving breakfast or sleeping over night at the shelter), drop us an email at admin@newwayproject.org or call/ text on 07490 983777.

Our shelter is only open from the start of December to March, but there are plenty of year round volunteering opportunities too.

Our team works closely with Bonny Downs Community Association to run the NEWday centre (former Purpose and Belonging Project).
